About SIM Card Connectors

SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) is a small smart card (25mm x 15mm x 0.76mm) designed to store subscribers identity, security, authentication and personal information for use in a mobile network terminal, such as a mobile phone, a portable GSM modem, or other access control terminals., e.g. an EPOS (Point of Sale) or a Satellite Receiver terminal. GCT offers a wide range of SIM card connectors. All of them are compatible with plug-in SIM cards that conforms to the GSM 11.11 standards.

Nano SIM connector

GCT are excited to be first to market with a Nano SIM connector. SIM8050 is a 6 contact push-pull Nano SIM connector with 1.45mm profile height, 5,000 insertion cycles, card stop function with an operating temperature rating of -20°C to +80°C.

SIM8050 accepts the recently introduced new Nano SIM card format, Nano-SIM or 4FF (4th form factor) measures 12.3mm × 8.8mm × 0.67mm and reduces the previous format to the contact area while maintaining the existing contact arrangements. Compared to Micro SIM a smaller area of isolating material remains around the contacts to avoid short circuits with the socket. The 0.67 mm thickness of the Nano-SIM card is approx. 15% percent less than Mini/Micro SIM card thickness of 0.76mm.

SIM 8050 available Q2 2013, other nano SIM connector types are in development.

Micro SIM connector

Micro SIM card connector is push pull type in 6 or 8 contacts. The connector allows the use of the smaller 15 x 12mm Micro SIM card, the reduced size card offers the same contact footprint as the full size ‘mini’ SIM card but offers approx. 50% card space saving. Micro SIM connector is suitable for 5,000 insertion cycles.

Dual SIM Connector

Dual SIM slots allow plugging of two SIM cards into one connector, saving you PCB space and cutting the cost of PCB placement. This enables applications using two GSM accounts in one device. For example, in the vehicle tracking market the connector allows the option of switching between mobile networks when crossing country borders or when a alternative network offers a price or signal quality advantage. In personal handheld applications the connector permits use of 'work' and 'personal' accounts.

Push Push SIM connector

Push Push SIM card connectors have a mechanism for easy card insertion and extraction – no need to open and close cellular phones lid to access the SIM card.
Built in SIM card detection switch.
Shielded metallic case minimizes EMI / EMC.
High quality 15u" gold plated contacts guarantees minimum 5,000 mating / unmating cycles.
Absorption area for automatic pick and place SMT mounting.

Combo SIM connector (SIM and MicroSD)

Combined SIM and Micro SD card connectors into one connector which offer:

Significant on-board space and cost saving.
Push pull SIM and push push micro SD, alternatively hinged SIM and micro SD.
Combo SIM connector profile heights of 2.7mm and 2.9mm.
Controlled 0.1mm co-planarity after reflow soldering.
Absorption area for automatic pick and place SMT mounting.

Hinged SIM connector

Hinged SIM card connectors are available in three different designs which offer:

6 and 8 contacts.
SIM card detection switch options.
SIM connector profile heights of 1.80mm, 2.50mm and 2.60mm.
Robust hinge slide lock mechanism holds the SIM card securely.
Guided housing for card alignment, preventing card mis-insertion.
SIM5055 and SIM5060 offer a card guide option to hold the SIM card in the cover to ease assembly.
Full-flat flipping cover suitable for any design scenarios.
SIM5051 and SIM 5055 offer a shielded metallic cover option.
Absorption area for automatic pick and place SMT mounting.

Push Pull SIM connector

Push Pull SIM card connectors are available in 2 different designs which offer:

SIM card detection switch options.
Card guide and stops in housing (inside the slot) prevents card mis-insertion.
Reliable low-friction contacts with 50mOhm contact resistance only.
Gold plated contacts guarantees minimum 5,000 mating / unmating cycles.
Absorption area for automatic pick and place SMT mounting.
